Memorial Falls, Montana

Memorial Falls, Montana.

My wife and I visited Memorial Falls during the summer of 2019. I had driven by the trailhead many times, but I had never pulled over to make the short hike to see the falls. Memorial Falls actually consists of two falls, an upper and a lower falls. The trailhead to the falls is located just a couple miles south-east past Neihart,Montana on Highway 89 in the Little Belt Mountains. The falls is on the Lewis and Clark National Forest. The hike is less than a half mile to the falls and is a relatively easy hike, although there are some rocky patches to be aware of. You do have to cross the creek by foot bridge and there are some handrails provided along the trail as well. There is a pit toilet and a couple picnic tables located just off the parking lot at the trailhead.

Memorial Falls is also accessible in the winter (for the most part) and makes for a nice hike in the snow. They do plow out the parking area and the pit toilet remains open as well. You may want to wait a couple of days however after a heavy snow to be sure the area is accessible. The trail can be a little slick in spots, so if you have ice cleats for your boots you might want to take them along.
